Hispanic Health User Guide for Members
This guide is for new members of HispanicHealth.info who would like to familiarize themselves with the basic functionality of the site.

Contribute Resources on Obesity or Diabetes
To contribute an Obesity or Diabetes Resource:
- Click on the 'Contribute!' link in the top of the left navigation menu
- Click on 'resource' as the content type
- Select the specific type of Obesity or Diabetes Resource you are contributing from the 'Category' menu
- Called "tagging", this assures that your submission will display in the right section(s) of the site
- For example, you if you tag a Resource under several sub-categories of Obesity and Diabetes, it will appear in each of those sections of the site
- To select multiple category types, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on each category type
- Fill in all required fields (denoted with a red *) and click 'Submit'

Participate in Member Specific Discussions
To participate in the Member Specific Discussion Forum:
- Click on the 'Community' tab in the center navigation menu
- Click on 'Member Specific Discussion' to enter the members-only forum
- To post a new discussion topic, click 'Post new forum topic', fill in the required fields and click "Submit"
- To post a new comment to an open discussion topic, click on the 'add new comment' under the desired post, fill in the required fields and click 'Submit'
About Us Section
The About Us section contains information on the site's origin, purpose and network members.
Click on the 'About Us' tab in the center navigation menu to enter that section.
Community Section
The Community section contains the General and Member Specific forums. Both members and non-members must register and sign-in to the site in order to access the forums and participate in discussions.
Click on the 'Community' tab in the center navigation menu to enter that section.
Contact Us Section
The Contact Us section is intended to provide site visitors and members an easy means to send site administrators messages about HispanicHealth.info including comments or suggestions about content, questions, reports of bugs, etc.
Click on the 'Contact Us' tab in the center navigation menu to enter that section.
Contribute to HispanicHealth.info
- Click on the 'Contribute!' link in the top of the left navigation menu
- Choose from the list of content types, depending on what kind of information you want to submit
- If you are submitting a Resource, News or Research, be sure to select the appropriate tags in the 'Category' menu(s)
- "Tagging" assures that your submission will display in the right section(s) of the site
- For example, you can tag a News Story as a resource related to 'Obesity' and 'Diabetes' and as a 'News Story' and it will show up in three separate places on the site

Forums
The forums, or discussion groups, that are part of the 'Community' section of the site allow HispanicHealth.info members to communiate directly with each other by sharing information, collaborating on projects or proposals, debating topics of interest etc. To participate:
- Click on the 'Community' tab in the center navigation menu
- Click on either 'General Discussion' to enter the public forum or 'Member Specific Discussion' to enter the members-only forum
- To post a new discussion topic, click 'Post new forum topic', fill in the required fields and click "Submit"
- To post a new comment to an open discussion topic, click on the 'add new comment' under the desired post, fill in the required fields and click 'Submit'
News Section
The News section of the site contains internet news stories related to Hispanic health, with a featured news story highlighted at the top of the section. The current focus is on Obesity and Diabetes among Hispanics. Members can contribute annotated links to interesting news stories on Obesity and Diabetes.
Click on the 'News' tab in the center navigation menu to enter that section.
Polls
To participate in a Poll:
Read the question in the 'Poll' box in the right sidebar. Select your numerical response to the question and click 'Vote'. Unless otherwise noted the numerical responses correspond to the following guide:

| 4 = Highly Satisfactory/Good |
| 3 = Satsifactory/Acceptable |
| 2 = Unsatisfactory/Needs Improvement |
| 1 = Highly Unsatisfactory/Worst |

Research Section
The Research section contains information related to ongoing Hispanic health research, Hispanic health research results and upcoming Hispanic health research opportunities. The current focus is Obesity and Diabetes among Hispanics. Members can contribute annotated content about Obesity and Diabetes research to this section. Such research content could include:
- Research Institutions/Centers
- Grant Opportunities
- Research Projects/Clinical Trials
- Research Results
- Prominent Researchers
- General Research Tools
Click on the 'Research' tab in the center navigation menu to enter that section.
Resources Section
The Resources section of the site contains helpful information related to Hispanic health for medical practitioners and the general public. The current focus is Obesity and Diabetes among Hispanics. Members can contribute Obesity and Diabetes related content to this section. Such resources could include:
- fact-sheets
- model programs
- treatment ideas
- relevant websites
- videos
- state or federal govt. policies, etc.
Click on the 'Resources' tab in the center navigation menu to enter that section.
Search
To use the Search function:
- To perform a basic search, type directly into the search box in the right sidebar and click 'Search' to see the results
- After your initial results are displayed you can click on the 'users' tab to apply your search to the user directory
- If you would like to refine your search, or perform a more advanced search, click 'Search' and then 'Advanced Search' (please note that the 'content' tab must be highlighted in order to see 'Advanced Search')
- Fill in the desired fields, limiting the search by keywords, category, content type etc. and click 'Advanced Search' to see the results
